The North American Federation
of Sexuality Organizations (NAFSO) is a
coalition of not-for-profit organizations
devoted to the promotion of sexual science,
sexual health, and sexual rights.
NAFSO was created to:
1. Promote
cooperation, collaboration, communication,
and coordination among sexual health, research,
and advocacy organizations in the United
States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
2. Promote international
cooperation between members of NAFSO and
other sexological federations including
the World Association for Sexual Health.
3. Promote educational
programs and research leading to increased
knowledge for professionals in sexology-related
disciplines.
4. Advocate for accurate
and comprehensive sexual health information
in the public domain.
NAFSO was formed
on May 6, 2002 at meeting of the Council
of Associations for Sexual Science, Health,
and Education (CASSHE) in Miami Beach, Florida.

The charter members of
NAFSO are the American Association of Sex
Educators, Counselors and Therapist (AASECT);
the Canadian Sex Research Forum (CSRF);
the Foundation for the Scientific Study
of Sexuality (FSSS); Planned Parenthood
Federation of America (PPFA); the Sexuality
Information and Education Council of the
United States (SIECUS); the Society for
the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS);
and the Society for Sex Therapy and Research
(SSTAR).
NAFSO
supports a definition of sexual science,
sexual health, and sexual rights based upon
the guidelines stated in:

(a) the definition of
"sexual health" produced by
the Pan American Health Organization/World
Health Organization (PAHO/WHO);

(b) "Characteristics
of a Sexually Healthy Society" produced
by PAHO/WHO;
-
(c) the "Declaration
of Sexual Rights" produced by the
World Association of Sexology (WAS); and
-
(d) "Life Behaviors
of a Sexually Healthy Adult" produced
by the SIECUS.
